Helping you work out where to begin

“I’m starting from scratch…. It’s a blank canvas…. It’s all neutral…. I don’t know where to start….”

I hear this a lot from clients who struggle to get started on a new interior project.  It can be tricky to know where to begin which is why at Dean & Co we’re happy to share our expertise and knowledge to guide you.

Our showroom is full of the latest styles and trends, and we have access to a huge range of resources to help build your dream interior, from trendy boucle to cork wallpaper.  And while you are here you can choose your furniture and carpet at Hatfield’s!

When trying to style a room there are a few ways to get started.  If you truly do have a blank room, then look to your treasured possessions or artwork to give you a clue about what you like.

Maybe you have a piece of furniture that will make a stunning centrepiece or a picture or ornament that you would like to showcase. Once you have this focus you can use it to guide you on the colours and style for the rest of the room. Just bring a photo with you to our showroom and we can help with the rest.

Alternatively, you may have spotted a wallpaper or fabric you are keen to include but you’re not sure how this will fit with the rest of the room.

Bold designs like this gorgeous wallpaper from Osborne & Little make for fantastic feature walls, livening up the room if you don’t have pictures or artwork to display.  We have an incredible range of impressive wallpapers to inspire, allowing you to pick a style, palette and mood to fit your taste. And once you have made your selection we can help you work out how to incorporate this into your room.

Fabric is an important consideration too. If you are opting for curtains take some time to think how you will use them. Are they for comfort and warmth on a winter evening or are they simply for privacy to screen you from view?  Do you need to dress a window to soften the room or is there a more practical purpose?  Choosing whether to go for full curtains or a simple blackout roller blind is a key element to consider.

Roman blinds are a popular choice nowadays and suit rooms where you want to let the light flood in. This small scale trellis pattern blends with the soft pastel walls, and doesn’t detract from the view outside.

When redecorating it can be tempting to replace like with like. However, trying something new can make for a refreshing change. For example, older houses don’t have to mean traditional heavy patterns. This geometric design is styled with the parquet wood panelled floor and oak beams for a light airy feel. We can help you look at the room through new eyes suggesting options you may not have considered before.
