Wait until you've exchanged contracts
Many of our customers who are in the process of moving house, come in looking to start afresh yet feel a bit daunted by the prospect of decorating their home and are unsure where to start.
It can seem like a big impossible task, but it doesn’t have to be. At Dean & Co we have lots of tips, including suggestions to help decide which areas to focus on first.
As exciting as choosing curtains and blinds for your new home is, we would always recommend you wait to place your order until you have exchanged contracts as there can be many unexpected twists and turns when it comes to buying a home.
Are you starting from scratch?
If you are moving house, into a new build, we can arrange to visit the show home and take measurements which will help to give a good idea of price when choosing your curtains or blinds. You don’t need to be there; we simply go in and measure up for all eventualities, and we then get together in the showroom to see what you like.
A great starting point is to think about what you are bringing with you – are you starting from scratch with carpets and furniture, or do you have existing sofas and rugs that are making the journey? And are you looking to completely redecorate or fit with an existing colour scheme? All these elements will play a part in your decision making when it comes to choosing new curtains, blinds and soft furnishings.
Look at colours in existing furniture, photographs and ornaments as a place to start. If you don’t have a recurring colour or theme in your personal items to lead you, there are lots of places you can get ideas, for example magazines, design programmes on TV, Pinterest or interiors accounts on Instagram. Plus, we have an impressive collection of fabrics in our showroom for you to browse.
It’s essential to start with the main rooms of the house, as these are the most important spaces (usually main bedroom and living areas).
