Mr and Mrs K in Hatfield Peverel, Essex, wanted to transform their bedroom and dressing room into a luxurious haven using curtains, blinds and soft furnishings to achieve a country cottage feel typical of traditional houses in Essex.
Mr and Mrs K had already recently purchased Eglantine wallpaper in Rose/Yellow from the Sanderson range and decorated their wall with the paper following advice from the Dean & Co. team. They then returned to the showroom, wanting to pick up on this in bespoke curtains and blinds. After a few trips to the showroom, advice from one of our interior experts and free 48hr loan of one of our sample books, it was decided that a combination of curtains, blinds and soft furnishings in the same Eglantine design would be the perfect choice. Eglantine is a beautiful romantic floral cotton with a vintage rose and petal design in the loose French painterly style seen in the 1950s
For the main window in the bedroom, Mr and Mrs K decided upon full length pinch pleat heading curtains to be fitted on their existing traditional mahogony wood pole with urn finials, teamed with blinds in plain silk to be set inside the recess inside the curtains. They chose a narrow Roman blind for the dressing room window in the same fabric as the curtains. Our fitter Chris visited Mr and Mrs K’s home to measure up for the Roman blind and curtains as part of our start-to-finish service. Mr and Mrs K requested that the curtains had ‘bump’ interlining instead of regular. Bump interlining is a thick, yet incredibly lightweight lining that is made from 100% cotton flannel and is inserted between the fabric and lining for extra insulation. It creates a heavier look and is suitable for cotton satin fabric but is not essential, purely at the customer’s request. This can be an ideal solution for keeping heat in if you’ve got single glazed windows; It also gives a lovely thick feel to the curtains. We complemented the beautiful romantic floral curtains with tiebacks featuring piping in same Eglantine fabric. These hold the curtains back and also give a bit more of a formal feel to them. We have a wide collection of tiebacks available from some of the finest designers including Wemyss Houles, Jane Churchill and Sanderson’s own range with colours to complement their fabrics. Once made, Chris returned to Mr & Mrs K’s home to fit the curtains and blinds quickly and efficiently which is all included as part of our start to finish service. We are well known for our exceptional customer service and this is one of the reasons that clients keep coming back to us.
Mr and Mrs K wanted something extra special to tie their bedroom and dressing room together; they chose a bespoke quilted bed scarf in the same fabric, quilted with simple squares so as not to draw attention from the beautiful rose design. They also chose a simple cushion in matching fabric with contrast silk on the reverse. Soft furnishings are a great way to change the feel and look of a room and tie a colour scheme or new look together.
