After one of the hottest summers in decades, seeing autumn arrive has been something of a relief.
Throws, lighted candles, well-placed lamps creating warming ambiance in the darker evenings… a chance to withdraw, get comfortable and contemplate the imminent festive season.
Accessories incorporating woodland creatures, large tartan blankets and cushions are the interior trend for autumn that never seems to fade.
It’s hard to beat a classically shaped sofa in a bold check fabric, and preferably wool for comfort and warmth.
Autumn/Winter 2017 was all about luxurious fabrics in bold colours. This year, the leading fabric, design houses have taken this trend one step further by layering bold patterns and prints on top. Even fringing is back on lampshades and curtains.
A classic interpretation of this is the luxurious velvet fabric from Designers Guild. Not only does it tick the boxes for sumptuous fabric and bold pattern, but the ochre shade is particularly popular at the moment, too. It also goes rather well with almost any shade of grey.
In smaller spaces, you may not want bulky curtains that hog the light… but you’d still like it to feel cosy at night. One option is go to for sheers like these from Harlequin: a stylish solution: they won’t keep the heat in as much as curtains, of course but they do provide that extra barrier against the dark outside.
Wallpaper can provide a wonderful foundation to a room scheme. No longer is it just being used for statement walls, it’s now widely used for the whole room.
As with the fabrics this season, it’s also ‘the bolder the better’ when it comes to design. If you’re new to wallpaper, or prefer a more subtle scheme, then this leaf-inspired print from Zoffany will help ease you in.
Birds have featured busily in interiors this year.
Wallpapers and fabrics are full of birds on the wing, feathers, birds hopping around woodlands, perched on trees…
As with any trend, Designer Guild have gone all out to create their feathered collection: feather centric with wonderful colours and shapes.
